HEPA/ULPA filter units: for the highest purity

Our HEPA/ULPA filter units are specifically designed for applications with the highest purity requirements, such as pharmaceutical, laboratory, or electronics manufacturing environments. They reliably filter out even the finest particles and aerosols from the air, ensuring controlled and clean working conditions.

The filter units consist of a robust housing and, depending on the application, incorporate various integrated HEPA or ULPA filter elements. Thanks to their compact design, they can be easily integrated into existing extraction systems and customized to meet specific customer requirements.

Ratec Signet
Schwebstofffilter

RATEC HEPA/ULPA filter units remove even the finest particles, germs and aerosols from the air that other filters simply let pass. With HEPA or ULPA filter cells, they provide controlled, clean working environments in pharma, labs and electronics manufacturing as the final filtration stage. We design each unit entirely to your requirements, and build the housing and unit in our own plant in St. Veit an der Glan, depending on the project.

What is a HEPA/ULPA filter unit?

A HEPA/ULPA filter unit is a high-performance filter for particles so small that they remain suspended in the air, such as fine dust, smoke, aerosols or germs. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air, ULPA for Ultra Low Penetration Air. The filter cells consist of a very fine, pleated filter medium that reliably retains particles in the sub-micrometer range.

In an extraction system, HEPA/ULPA filter units are usually installed as the final stage after the cartridge filter. This means only the finest particles reach them, and the expensive filter cells last longer.

Filter classes to EN 1822

How well a HEPA/ULPA filter unit separates particles is defined by the filter classes in EN 1822. Internationally, the equivalent standard series ISO 29463 applies.

Filter classSeparation efficiency (integral)Typical application
H13at least 99.95%Pharma, lab, extraction of hazardous dusts
H14at least 99.995%Cleanrooms, sterile areas
U15 to U17at least 99.9995% to 99.999995%Semiconductor and electronics manufacturing

Which class is used depends on your requirements, your process and your industry specifications. We use only tested filter cells from specialized manufacturers, matched to the required class.

Your benefits

  • Highest purity: Separation of the finest particles and aerosols.
  • Compact design: robust housing with integrated filter cells.
  • Easy to retrofit: can be integrated into existing extraction systems.
  • Tailored to your requirements: filter class, size and design individually matched.

What matters in the design

  • Purity requirement: required filter class, specifications from your industry.
  • Airflow: volume flow and permissible pressure drop.
  • Pre-filtration: which stages are installed upstream of the HEPA/ULPA filter unit.
  • Installation situation: space, connection to the existing system, access for filter changes.

Complete solution from a single source

RATEC supplies HEPA/ULPA filter units as individual retrofit units or as part of a complete extraction system—from consulting and planning to technical design and manufacturing, through to installation and commissioning. We manufacture in our own plant in Carinthia, certified to ISO 9001, EN 1090-1 and ISO 3834-2.

In the pharmaceutical industry, laboratories, electronics production, and wherever the highest purity is required. Typically, the HEPA/ULPA filter is positioned as the final stage after a cartridge filter to prevent contamination by coarse dust. RATEC easily integrates HEPA/ULPA filters into existing extraction systems.

The most difficult particles to separate are those around 0.1 to 0.3 µm, known as MPPS. Larger particles are effectively captured by impaction and interception, while smaller ones are well-captured by diffusion. Filter classes are defined for this size range, and RATEC HEPA filters are precisely designed for it.

HEPA filters of classes H13 and H14 according to EN 1822 capture at least 99.95% and 99.995% of particles, respectively, while ULPA filters of classes U15 to U17 achieve even higher efficiency. ULPA is used wherever the highest level of purity is required. RATEC supplies filters with HEPA or ULPA filter cells.
